Gala 9 raises more than $114,000 for SBA Foundation

Updated: Jan 25, 2021

– It was an evening of fun, socializing and supporting the patients at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital during the SBA Foundation’s Gala 9 on Oct. 11. With a 1920’s circus theme, the festive atmosphere offered everyone a good time and raised a gross profit of $114,800.

SBA Foundation President Steve Funk welcomed everyone to the evening and introduced new SBA Foundation Executive Director Holly Landon.

“El Dorado has been amazing,” Landon told the group. “I know you know, but this place is something special. There is so much love and compassion in this town.”

Throughout the evening, people could bid on a variety of silent auctions and enjoy dinner before the live auction got underway.

A new twist on the auction this year was during the annual F.S. Challenge, when those attending are encouraged to donate to support the hospital, representing the generosity of F.S. Allen’s donation which helped establish the hospital. This year, those wishing to donate were encouraged to do so in honor or memory of someone. Those people will be recognized on a plaque, which will be placed in the hospital.

The money raised from donations and sponsors will help continue the programs the Foundation funds. This past year, those programs included free flu shots, child birth classes, transportation assistance, prescription assistance, Cancer Center meals, community wellness and more. Earlier this year, the Foundation also provided new furniture for the surgery, main lobby and emergency department waiting rooms, as well as recliners in patient rooms, among other requests for project funding.

“Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Susan B. Allen Foundation and our mission to enhance the quality of life in our community,” Landon said. “It was amazing to watch everyone’s generosity and willingness to give. It is the community support that makes us continue our success and make patients’ experiences even better at SBA.”
